Biggest loss in VFA

In front of a 'large' attendance Melbourne went in with a weakened squad and were duly thrashed. They were four goals down at the first break, and though they managed to score their lone goal in the second quarter South added another five.

The pattern of the first half followed in the second as South kicked four goals in the third quarter and five in the last to register a massive victory.

To that point it was the biggest score and biggest win in VFA senior history.

Best were McKenzie, King and Fox.

Notes
Some sources have South on 13 goals at three quarter time.
