September 1882 match 2 vs Carlton

September 30 - Princes Oval
Crowd: "About 3000"

Melbourne 3.4
Carlton 6.14 (half time 3.3-0.4)

Carlton win by 3 goals

Goalkickers: McDonald 2, Thewlis 1

Melbourne's nightmare 1882 season finally came to an end, but not before they had one last loss to remember it by.

They were at least given the chance to enjoy the first half courtesy of kicking with a strong wind. Despite this handicap Carlton had the better of the attacks in the first 30 minutes by kicking three behinds to two. Melbourne eventually scored the first three goals, through Thewlis then twice from McDonald soon after.

Any doubt that Carlton would eventually win was put to rest when they kicked two quick goals after half time to set the tone for what was going to follow. The Blues were then rampant and ran away to a comfortable victory.

Best were McKenzie, Thewlis and Robertson.
