The league's big improvers continued to push their top four credentials with another big away victory.

Melbourne led by just one point in front at half time, but 7.3 to 0.4 in the third quarter gave them the lead they deserved. Despite the sting going out of the match in the last quarter Melbourne waltzed away to a win and extended their lead in the last.

Most of the seven goals came late in the third, just when it looked like South were going to hold on and make the last quarter interesting.

Mollison and Haines were dynamic as a ruck/rover combination, and the taps down to the former Geelong rover led to numerous attacks on goal. Moyes, Davie and Wittman were also good while the defensive combination of Collins and Corbett won praise for their performances.
