After registering their first win of the season two days earlier the Reds faced off against their next door neighbours in a King's Birthday match and went back to their losing ways.

If they'd kicked as well as they had against University on the Saturday they might have been a chance, but inaccuracy cost them any hope of victory despite leading at quarter time.

The Reds outscored their opponents in the final term, but their poor kicking for goal cost them any chance of a belated comeback and they crashed to their seventh defeat for the year.

Trahair was Melbourne's best. Jack Evans was reported for charging but was cleared.

A crowd riot started when police tried to arrest one local and he resisted. The crowd rushed the police car in which they were attempting to take the man away but the rescue attempt failed.

Notes
Some sources suggest an A. McKenzie received 20 free kicks. This may be Bill McKenzie.
