Three wins for the season had North as the best of the recent ex-VFA clubs, sitting in sixth place. Just when it looked like they were going to be the breakout side of the three new entries to the competition, North put on their lowest score since joining the VFL and were well beaten.

In muddy conditions the Poppies were a disappointment, but the rough going didn't stop their opposition. After registering 11 scoring shots to two in the first quarter Melbourne were already well on their way to a big victory, and despite North winning the second quarter they failed to fire another shot and added just 1.6 more for the day.

Corbett, Tymms and Chadwick were best, while debutants Young and Meade also impressed.
