With North not having won since Round 9 and the Demons having spent the week in the media spotlight all week after the last-gasp Round 18 loss against Richmond it was no surprise that a paltry crowd turned out for the Sunday early game.

Rohan Bail played one of the least auspicious debuts in recent memory as he injured himself in the warm-up and lasted just one kick in the first minute of the game before going straight up the race.

Despite dominating the inside 50's in the first quarter Melbourne had no avenue to goal and went in behind at the first change.

North blew the game open in the third quarter and the lead stretched over ten goals until the Demons fought back with multiple goals. The last quarter, however, was more of the same and Melbourne moved one step closer to the cherished priority draft pick.

Best were Bate, Jones and Valenti.

Paul Johnson was a late replacement for Jared Rivers.
