With the MCG kicking them off the ground so preparations could start for the new cricket season, the Reds were forced to temporarily relocate to the South Melbourne ground for their clash against their last placed opposition who had only won one game for the year.
First gamer Cathie dominated the second sectional round match with a five goal debut haul. 10 of his side's goals came from snap shots as St Kilda were easily beaten. They weren't helped by Melbourne's accurate goalkicking, putting on 10.1 in the first half.
The percentage boosting win set up a clash in the final round with Fitzroy where the winner would play finals football.
