Footscray win by 39 points
First MFC Game
A slumping Footscray side who had lost five of their last six games regained some form against the Demons at the Western Oval. The game was a golden opportunity for Melbourne to keep the pressure on the top five and they started the day just a game behind fifth placed Collingwood but without five regulars through injury and suspension Footscray ran over the top in the second half after the game was close at half time.
Marty Lyons kicked the first two goal of the third term to give the Demons a lead but from there it was all Bulldog. Kicking against the wind that quarter they piled on 6.1 to 4.3 and added another seven in the last term - a 13 goal blast in the second half that carried them over the line.
Former Demon Greg Parke returned from three weeks on the sidelines the week before to kick five goals in the reserves, and got two on his senior return.
