May 1895 Match vs Collingwood

Saturday 11 May - Victoria Park

Collingwood 1.1, 2.1, 2.1, 2.1
Melbourne 2.1, 3.2, 4.8, 6.9

Melbourne win by 4 goals

Goalkickers: Girdlestone 3, J. Bedford 1, Roche 1, McCarthy 1

On a hard ground the two sides battled a fiery game, with umpire Shaw finding it difficult to control the players. While both sides were attributed as having some responsibility for the violence, the papers said Melbourne were the chief delinquents with their physical superiority.

Much of the rough play was confined to the first half, allowing Melbourne to come out in the second half and dazzle the locals with an 'artistic' display of football which helped deliver a second win in a row.

Best were Christy, McGinis and Moysey.
