Tall defender who was rookie listed in 2005 after impressing with VFL affiliate Sandringham. Saw his opportunities limited under Neale Daniher and Mark Riley, spending much of his time in the VFL - winning both the 2005 and 2006 premierships with the Zebras.

Warnock played just two games in each of 2006 and 2007, and missing the first five weeks of the 2008 season, it appeared that his chance at an AFL career was slipping away but after breaking into the side in Round 6 Warnock was an ever-present for the rest of the season, and performed several big jobs on quality forwards. He was rewarded for his fine performances during the season with fourth place in the Best and Fairest award.

2009 saw Warnock establish himself further in the heart Melbourne defence, playing impressive games on opposition key forwards despite the side usually losing before his season was ended by injury after Round 18. He finished 5th equal fifth in that year's Best and Fairest, but suffered a disappointing 2010 campaign where after playing 13 of the first 14 games of the season he was dropped and made only one more senior appearance for the season.

After playing just four senior matches in 2011 between Round 7 and Round 11 but regularly excelling in the VFL, Warnock demanded a trade away from Melbourne at the end of the season and on the last day of the trade period he was exchanged to Gold Coast for National Draft selection 52 which the Suns had acquired from Brisbane in a trade.

Warnock played every game for the Suns in his first season, but added just four more in his second after breaking his arm early in the year, and six in 2014. He was delisted at the end of that year.

His brother Robert played for Fremantle and Carlton.
