July 1892 Match vs Footscray

Saturday 9 July - Warehouseman's Cricket Ground
Crowd - 150

Melbourne 2.3, 5.6, 9.10, 13.12
Footscray 0.3, 1.3, 2.5, 2.5

Melbourne win by 11 goals

Goalkickers: Harry Graham 5, Kelly 4, Howes 3, Wilson 1

In front of one of the lowest crowds the club has ever played a competitive game in front of, the Metropolitans dished out a fearsome beating to a visiting team weakened by the loss of six players who'd withdrawn due to a pay dispute. In the officially amateur era, the Tricolours were forced to deny they knew why the players were asking for money.

Melbourne was already well in front going into the last quarter before piling on another six goals.

Best were Aitken, McKenzie and O'Loughlin.
