Initially recruited to the Thirds in 1951, the 1953 Seconds defender was promoted to the senior list in June 1954 but did not play a game.

In 1953 he was a reserve for the VFL's Second 18 representative side which played South Australia.

Played for Yarragon in 1956 and coached Lower Ferntree Gully in 1957 aged just 24, before joining VFA side Port Melbourne in 1958.

Was also a fast bowler for Victoria in 26 first class games.
