Rover who joined the fourths in 1964 and won the Best and Fairest in 1965.

Finished runner-up in the Under 19s Best and Fairest in both 1966 and 1967 then played 19 games in the Demons Reserves before joining VFA side Mordialloc in 1969.

Smith won the 1970 JJ Field Medal for best player in the VFA Second Division.
