Hawthorn played with a 25 to 20 advantage, and held out their more accomplished opposition until Bennie scored just before half time. The juniors reorganised their side after half time and improved their play, allowing them better goalscoring opportunities than the first part of the game. Their attacks came to nothing, and they conceded the last two goals of the game quickly.

James Bennie, Nicholas and F. Baker were best.
