Former school football player who switched to soccer and athletics, Newman was signed as a free agent for Melbourne's initial AFLW season. She had most recently played soccer for Calder United.

The forward was a member of Melbourne's inaugural side, and played four games in her first season. Played every game in 2018, kicking the competition's Goal of the Year in Round 2 against Adelaide.

Newman had her best goalkicking season in 2019, booting six goals, including a record-equalling three in Round 3. Had a poor 2020, failing to land a goal in any of seven games and registering an inaccurate 0.7.

Traded to Collingwood at the end of 2020 with 2020 AFLW National Draft pick #11 for picks #10 and #17m. She joined expansion club Sydney for the 2022 spring season, before being traded to Greater Western Sydney at the end of 2023.
