Melbourne win by 22 points.

Despite missing several key players against a nearly full-strength Kangaroos side, Melbourne won comfortably.

David Neitz, Aaron Davey and Byron Pickett shared 12 goals between them. Neitz got the first three goals of the game, and the Demons were five goals in front at quarter time.

North rallied in the second quarter, but as the game wore on Melbourne started to take control. They stretched the lead to 48 points in the third term before North hit back with six straight goals to cut the margin to ten at the last change.

Melbourne, though, kicked four of the last five to seal victory.
