The inaccurate Demons had three goals from 15 scoring shots in the first quarter, before North ran away with a comfortable seven goals to two last term to win easily. Kicking with the wind in the first quarter the Demons collapsed, conceding a 31 point lead at quarter time. Melbourne stemmed the bleeding and cut into the lead, but missed five chances in the third quarter.
