Played in near 40 degree heat, North's superiority was never challenge and they went on to an easy win. The margin was nearly five goals at half time, and North Melbourne's first 10 scoring shots were goals. Melbourne got into the game at three quarter time but were beaten easily in the last quarter.

Best were Peter Giles, Michael Seddon and Graham Gaunt. Steven Smith sprained his ankle.
