1877 May match vs Geelong

Saturday 24 May - Argyle Ground
Crowd: 2000

Melbourne 3
Geelong 1 (half time 1-1)

Melbourne win by 2 goals

Goalkickers: Fred Baker 2, W. Moffatt 1

Geelong attacked first, but Melbourne should have had the first goal of the day through Fred Baker. He missed a sitter, and the Pivots counter attacked to open the scoring. Baker made no such mistake with a second opportunity shortly after to equalise scores.

In the second half Geelong found it harder to contain their opponents and the Reds kicked two more goals to seal victory in their first match of the year against a senior side.

Best were Longden, F. Baker and Bennie.
