Melbourne win by 18 points
3 - Scott Chisholm
1 - David Schwarz
After a shaky middle of the season, Melbourne had started a revival with a win over Collingwood and a narrow loss to the defending (and eventual) premiers. Victory over the Crows kept them in the race for the eight, but it would ultimately be their final win of the season.
Darren Jarman played a lone hand up front for the Crows kicking 9.0 - the most ever kicked by a Crow in a losing side to that point - but Adelaide's other key playmakers were put right out of the game by Melbourne's desperation.
Best were Schwarz, Johnstone and Neitz.
Mark Bickley was suspended for one match for striking Ben Beams.
Melbourne 12.14.86 d. Richmond 7.12.54
Best - Robertson, Cockatoo-Collins, Simmonds
Goals - Robertson 4, Williams 3, Longmuir 3, Smoker 2
