On a wet day at Casey, Melbourne had the better of their inaugural AFLW match but suffered from a misfiring forward line. They had almost double the inside 50s but no marks in attack, and Brisbane benefited from two goals from 50 metre penalties to win. The Dees failed to kick a goal either time they had use of a strong wind, and didn't score in the last three quarters.

Late in the second quarter a lightning strike caused the game to be halted. The players left for the half-time break, then finished the remainder of the quarter after before commencing the third immediately.

Jasmine Grierson kicked the club's ever first goal in the second quarter.

Best were Pearce, O'Dea and Paxman.
